As we close in 2017, we would like to update you on a few things that our foundation has been working on and will continue working on into the New Year. Through many generous donations, we have distributed to date, 60 library kits to public libraries in our state through the Lyme library campaign. This campaign will go into the next year but we have already reached our goal of distributing these kits to all public libraries in Worcester County. We can not thank you enough for your support in helping us to raise awareness to Massachusetts residents about this disease.
Our foundation was also able to do over a dozen presentations about Lyme disease in our local communities and have already scheduled more into the Spring for this year. If you know of an organization that could benefit from our presentation and/or a supply of informational materials, please contact us through email at CentralMassLyme@gmail.com.
On September 23rd, we also had our 3rd Lyme disease Conference at the Worcester Technical High School in Worcester, and educated close to 500 more attendees. Our attendance surpassed the last two conferences that were held in previous years. We are grateful to our board and conference committee members, as well as our speakers, exhibitors and our volunteers, who made this all possible. It took many months to plan this successful event and were honored to work a great team who gave of their time to help organize this.
Sadly, the calls to our toll free Lyme line 1-888-511-LYME, continues to grow. This year, we have received over 280 calls from people looking for assistance for either themselves or family member.
Lastly, we are working in 2018 on distributing more Lyme library kits to now school libraries as well as on a grant to educate children about Lyme disease prevention. We are also putting together tick kits for school nurses and educating them in May through a professional development course. Our monthly meetings now will be videotaped through Facebook Live so others who may not be able to attend in person, can still participate online. We will be starting a “Take Back Your Health” series on January 13th, 2018 and our guest speaker, Holistic Health Coach, Paula Denoncourt will talk about the food we eat when battling a chronic illness. Our meetings are at 90 Holden Street, Worcester, MA 01609 and our monthly meetings will be streaming on our Facebook page, Central Mass Lyme Foundation.
We are very happy to say that all of these goals align with our foundation’s mission of raising awareness, educating and advocating.
May all of you enjoy the time this holiday season with your friends and family! We look forward to continuing our mission in 2018!
Michele and Ken
